Director of Solution Architecture, Capital Markets

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

As Head of Data Architecture, you will lead the strategic design and governance of RBC Capital Market's data platform ecosystem. This high-impact leadership role shapes how the organization captures, stores, processes, and leverages data to drive business value. You'll oversee architecture of critical systems supporting capital markets operations, guide teams through data modernization initiatives, and establish standards that enable innovation while maintaining integrity and security. Partner with senior business and technology leaders to deliver transformational outcomes and influence enterprise-wide technology decisions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Consult on major initiatives within CM (Capital Markets) to help design solutions that meet the specific needs of the delivery while also progressing the broader architectural strategy of the department (align with architecture principles, modernize and simplify the estate, re-use capabilities/technologies, etc).

  • Review proposed architectures from CM delivery teams to align specific team requirements to high level goals of CM leadership and the bank.  For instance, why are you ordering a physical machine instead of using internal cloud?  Why are you using Redis over MemSQL?  Why are you pulling X from RBCAppA instead of RBCAppB?  Etc..

  • Help lead an architecture council in which proposed architectures are debated for their merits and scrutinized by a broad set of stakeholders. 

  • Help to form and communicate technology guidance to standardize development of commonly needed capabilities.  For instance, figure out what our API strategy should be, document it on confluence, present it to senior leadership, and show dev teams how to implement it.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have

• Undergraduate degree coupled with transformational experience in complex programs with and multiple priorities and stakeholders

• Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills along with strong presentation skills; ability to determine the information and communication needs of stakeholders and projects.

• Strong organizational awareness, relationship management , project management, and time management capabilities.

• A strong understanding of financial services industry with specific knowledge of capital markets data technologies including: Kafka (capture/stream trade and market data), kdb+ (real-time in-memory storage), Snowflake/Databricks (historical archive and batch analytics), and MongoDB (flexible storage).

• Deep familiarity with data architecture across multiple platforms: Relational Data Stores (Postgres, SQL Server), Document Stores (MongoDB), Columnar Data Stores (Clickhouse, Yellowbrick, CDP), In-memory Data Stores (GridGain, Redis), Time Series Stores (kdb+), Data Warehouse/Analytics SaaS Platforms (Databricks, Snowflake), Vector Stores (pgvector, PineCone), and Messaging Middleware (Solace, Kafka, NATS.io).

• Deadline-driven and results-oriented; able to meet consistently high quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
